Bavški Grintavec
Duration: 7h
Difficulty: medium
Distance / Elevation: 12,2km / 2100m
Beautiful panoramatic trip from the upper Soča valley. In diverse mountain terrain, through Lemovje village to the summit in 2347m.
Starting point: Drive about 11 km from Bovec to the centre of Soča village. Marked path starts about 200-300m from the church in the direction of Trenta. There is also a small parking place for 2 to 3 cars.
Descripion: From the Soča village follow the marked path to Bavški Grintavec. The initial part is quite steep and will bring you to former Lemovje village in good half an hour. It turns left on the meadow and right again in a while, than you slowly enter the forrest. The gradient eases and the trail crosses the south hillside of Kol (1924 m). On the second big meadow, Planina nad Sočo, you'll reach the hunters' hut at which the path turns right and continues over some more meadows, forrests and dwarf pines. Once you'll climb over the forrest level, you'll appear in the valley between Mali Grintavec and Kol and the path surface will be gravel and stones. After a while the final steep part starts. At first you'll have to use all your extremities and than the strongly eroded section comes, where you should be aware of falling stones. Especially in the main summer season the helmet would be recommended. Though this way is the easiest approach of the Bavški Grintavec's summit, it can get very demanding in the hot days. Use the same path for the way down.
